Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Commercial Sales, the Commercial Sales Representative is responsible for implementing an “aggressive” and cost-effective sales and marketing program that achieves the annual commercial sales budget targets, drive profitable revenues and build a strong and loyal client (specifiers) and customer (contractors) base.
Responsibilities:
The CSR’s daily sales responsibilities are based on a ‘cradle to grave’ sales process, i.e. responsibility and accountability for each project from conception through to and including construction/installation. His sales contacts include landscape contractors, (key) masonry contractors, design-build contractors, owner/developers, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, government (all levels) transportation department engineers, landscape designers, building architects and landscape architects. Inherent to the sales position, the CSR builds strong cross-company relationships between sales, operations and administration.
Compensation:
$65k base, car allowance, uncapped commission
Requirements:
- Has a minimum of ten years sales experience in the building materials market in Canada or the U.S.A. Comfortable dealing with both professionals and contractors involved in the design, tender and construction process.
- Has post secondary education in a technical (civil engineering) or business school or has successfully completed numerous continuing education courses and/or programs.
- Foremost, can effectively engage in a “gorilla warfare” sales process that is focused on building market share at the expense of the direct competitor. Has a basic understanding of the sub contractor and negotiated contractor (design build) sales process that focuses primarily on driving profitable sales. Can translate this knowledge into effective communications and relationship building. Can leverage these communication and relationship building skills into product specifications.
- Has the ability to maintain these specifications through design, tender and construction.
-Is effective at closing sales with new customers. Has the ability to perform effective presentations to each of his/her target audiences.
- A mechanical aptitude is beneficial in the position. Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office experience are necessary, along with the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Displays an ability to work at a fast pace, to initiate deadlines and time frames for assignments and to follow through effectively with all delegated activities from customers/clients, as well as, peers and his supervisor. This is a multi-tasking environment.
