Overview:
The Manager of Engineering specializing in underground mining coordinates a multidisciplinary engineering, estimating and clerical group on engineering or estimating assignments that support The Company
Engineering/estimating assignments may include planning, developing, costing, scheduling, designing, and construction or any other aspect of engineering work and reports directly to the Sr. VP
The Manager of Engineering creates and monitors procedures and systems to facilitate engineering requirements. This job spends a significant amount of time managing and directing the operation of the assigned units, projects or programs as well as providing skills as a qualified, licensed engineer as well as acts as a technical authority in various aspects of assignments.

Responsibilities:
1. Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, and develops concepts and approaches, reviews projects progress and results; makes management decisions.
2. Oversees the estimation, development, evaluation or review of plans and criteria for a variety of activities; assesses feasibility of proposed plans, projects and equipment.
3. Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions including dismissal.
4. Directs coordination and/or liaison between The Company and clients as well as coordinating between engineering and various other head office or work unit and other agencies, work units, organizations, suppliers, etc.
5. Direct work and/or contribute to a work group or team to complete assigned task(s)
6. Develops, directs, and/or evaluates programs.
7. Plans and manages projects and/or programs. Writes (or discusses) project/program plan(s), recommendation(s) and/or finding(s).
8. Participates in the selection of consulting engineers, oversees and reviews their work product.
9. Takes responsibility for aspects of occupational health and safety, and environmental matters, over which the individual has control, including adherence to all requirements applicable to The Company.
10. Ensure that all direct reports in the workplace take responsibility for aspects of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment over which they have control including adherence to all O H S & E requirements applicable to The Company.
11. Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Compensation:
$185K +
Requirements:
Principles, theories, and practices of engineering
Principles, theories, and practices of group dynamics and/or team development
Fair Labor Standards Act and related employment legislation
Use engineering logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions
Use software applications such as MS Office and ACAD
Establish objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve these objectives
